abstract
abstract listening is a key and main tool in second language skill and its development is of prime concern to teachers and learners. furthermore, the application of technology in language classrooms has become more commonplace in the last fifty years. computer and the internet have made foreign language materials easy to access and use. so, the present study is an attempt to examine the effect of computerized vocabulary glossing on the listening comprehension of efl learners. for this study, a pre-test /posttest quasi-experimental solomon design were developed. forty elementary efl learners with age 17 to 28 were chosen from a private language institute in marand and, 20 efl learners out of 40 subjects were randomly selected to form the treatment group and the rest of them were formed the control group. one instructor taught listening comprehension by using computerized vocabulary glossing on the computer screen during ten sessions and the other group was taught the same listening comprehension text without vocabulary glossing. before the treatment, the experimental group filled out a background questionnaire. both quantitative and qualitative findings of this study showed that the computerized listening contributed to the development of efl listening comprehension more significantly than conventional listening.
